Full Description:
This unusual stone village house was once the Provençal home of Russian artist, Georges de Pogedaieff, who is buried in the Menerbes cemetery after his death in 1971. During his time in the village, he painted many still life and Luberon landscapes which he generously gave to his friends and neighbours locally.
The house is built into the rock that forms the perched village of Menerbes, and the property has a number of caves and cellars in addition to the main accommodation, which comprises: entrance hall; open sitting/dining/kitchen with fireplace, and doors to the wisteria-covered walled courtyard; bathroom; access to caves and passage through to the garage; off the terrace - a separate room with fireplace, which could be a second sitting room, artist's studio or guest bedroom.
Upstairs is the master bedroom, and its pretty terrace with lovely views of the Luberon hills, and shower room. Upstairs again to another bedroom with a pleasant lounge area, which could easily be converted into another bathroom.
With its adorable terrace areas for eating and relaxing outdoors, and the quirky 'troglodyte' rooms, this house is perfect for someone who wants to immerse themselves in the character and history of Menerbes and the Luberon.
